Colorado Book Publishing Services for Authors Who Write From Experience

Kinetic Digital Publishers has been a book publishing company since 2014, and its book publishing services in Colorado reach self-publishing authors in Denver and Colorado Springs. Most books take 4-8 weeks, packages start at $299, and you keep 100% of your rights and royalties. We work with Colorado authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas.

Colorado books often come out of practice: a guide with years on the same routes, a coach or physical therapist with a method, a founder in Boulder or Denver, or a family that rebuilt life around the mountains. That expertise is the selling point, so the finished book has to look as credible as the author.

Colorado Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing

From the Front Range to the Western Slope, these are the groups and events we suggest to Colorado authors at every stage.

  • Colorado Center for the Book. Established in 1989 and run by Colorado Humanities, it presents the annual Colorado Book Awards for the state's authors, editors, illustrators and photographers. In 2026, winners from its awards anthology represented Colorado at the National Book Festival.
  • Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. A nonprofit, volunteer-run group for writers seeking publication in fiction. It hosts the Colorado Gold Conference, runs the Colorado Gold Rush Literary Awards contest and lists critique groups for members.
  • Lighthouse Writers Workshop , Denver. Offers workshops and retreats all year, plus Lit Fest, eight days of advanced workshops, craft seminars, readings, business panels and agent meetings. Lit Fest 2027 runs June 11-18 at 3844 York Street.
  • Mountain of Authors, Pikes Peak Library District. A library program that connects readers with local writers. The 2026 edition included a Local Author Showcase with more than 80 local authors, a good model for where a self-published Colorado book can be seen.
  • Boulder Book Store. The largest independent bookstore in Boulder, at 1107 Pearl Street, hosting more than two hundred events every year.
  • Colorado Creative Industries. The state arts office's main Colorado Creates grant goes to arts-focused nonprofits, creative writing organizations included, not to individual writers. Individuals can apply only to narrower programs, such as the $3,000 Folk and Traditional Arts Project Grant, which opens again in early 2027.

Where we fit in: a showcase table or a conference pitch only works if the book is ready. We get it there, so these groups can help you find its readers.

Selling Your Book in Colorado: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores

State and local tax. Colorado's state sales tax is 2.9%, but sales can also carry state-administered local taxes and separate home-rule city taxes that some cities collect themselves.

Craft fairs, festivals and holiday markets. The Colorado Department of Revenue defines a special sales event as one with more than three sellers, away from their usual business location, held no more than three times a year at the same place. Each seller needs a special event license before the event, unless the organizer holds one and collects tax for sellers. If you file yourself, the return is due by the 20th of the following month. Ask the organizer about any local city requirements too.

Online stores. Colorado's Department of Revenue says marketplace facilitators must generally collect and remit state and state-administered local sales tax on sales made through their platforms.

Same everywhere. ISBNs are sold by Bowker nationwide, copyright is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, and a Library of Congress Control Number through the PCN program is free and optional.

This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

How to Choose a Book Publisher in Colorado

Decide first whether you want a traditional deal, where a press buys your rights and pays royalties after a long review, or self-publishing services, where you pay for editing, design and setup and keep the rights. Hybrid offers combine the two and deserve close reading.

Among book publishers in Colorado, the University Press of Colorado in Denver, a consortium of member universities, accepts proposals; its editors take up to six weeks to decide whether a project goes to peer review, which adds roughly two to three months. Poets have a second route: the Center for Literary Publishing at Colorado State University runs the Colorado Prize for Poetry and the Mountain/West Poetry Series under its own guidelines.

For anything else, compare self-publishing offers on three points: whose name the ISBN and accounts carry, who receives the royalties, and whether the written quote covers every service.

Expertise Earns Attention. Production Keeps It

Readers give an expert's book a few seconds: cover, title, description, first page. If any of them looks amateur, the experience behind the book never gets a hearing.

We work on all four deliberately. The cover is designed for your category, the description is written to persuade rather than summarize, and the opening chapters get the heaviest edit because they are read most.

Colorado books also carry extra production work. Trail guides, training plans and recovery programs often need maps, route profiles, tables or diagrams, and those affect page count, print cost and how the ebook has to be built. We plan them before typesetting, so the finished book is as easy to use on a trailhead as it is to read at home.
