Georgia Book Publishing Services for Authors Building Something That Lasts

Kinetic Digital Publishers, a book publishing company since 2014, offers book publishing services in Georgia to writers in Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah. Most self-publishing projects take 4–8 weeks, packages start at $299, and you keep 100% of your rights and royalties. We work with Georgia authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas.

Plenty of Georgia authors start with an audience. The state film office counted 280 film and TV productions in fiscal 2026, and the state is home to 16 Fortune 500 companies. Screenwriters, founders writing a thought-leadership book, podcasters turning episodes into chapters and service members tied to Georgia's nine military bases all fit that picture.

Georgia Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing

  • Georgia Center for the Book. Hosted by the DeKalb County Public Library, it is the state's affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book. It publishes the "Books All Georgians Should Read" lists and picks Georgia's titles for the National Book Festival.
  • Georgia Writers Association. Founded in 1994 and housed at Kennesaw State University, it runs the Georgia Author of the Year Awards, the Red Clay Writers Conference and the John Lewis Writing Grants for Black writers in Georgia.
  • Atlanta Writers Club. Active since 1914, the club holds the Atlanta Writers Conference twice a year, an annual Atlanta Self-Publishing Conference and monthly member meetings.
  • Local Author Day at Gwinnett County Public Library. A showcase only for self-published local authors. It is held at the Lilburn Branch, with entry by online submission; check the library calendar for the next date.
  • Decatur Book Festival and Savannah Book Festival. Decatur has brought readers and authors together each fall since 2005. Savannah's festival fills the Historic District in the first week of February; the 2027 dates are February 4–7.
  • Charis Books & More, Decatur. Open since 1974 and known as the South's oldest independent feminist bookstore, Charis keeps a busy calendar of author events.

A note on grants: Georgia Council for the Arts funds organizations only; its FY27 guidelines list individuals as not eligible. For individual writers, the Georgia Writers Association's grants and awards are the place to look.

Where we fit in: Georgia's clubs and festivals give you critique groups and a first crowd of readers. Our job is the editing, cover, formatting and publishing setup, so the copies on your festival table look professionally made.

Selling Your Book in Georgia: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores

Online stores. Since April 1, 2020, Georgia has treated a marketplace facilitator as a dealer once Georgia sales through its platform reach $100,000 in the current or previous calendar year. For most authors, the big online stores deal with sales tax on those orders.

Signings, fairs and festivals. The Department of Revenue's Form FS-32 (Miscellaneous Sales Event) tells vendors to collect Georgia sales tax at the rate of the jurisdiction where the event is held, then hand the form and the tax to the Revenue Agent on duty at the close of the event or mail them within 3 days. Registered sellers can report event sales on their regular return.

The rate. The state rate is 4%. Local option taxes such as LOST, SPLOST and MARTA sit on top, so the combined rate depends on the county. Check the current rate chart before an event.

Federal, not state. Your ISBN comes from Bowker, copyright registration goes through the U.S. Copyright Office, and a Library of Congress Control Number is optional. A Georgia address changes none of them; we register the ISBN under your own name or imprint.

This is general information, not tax or legal advice. Confirm your situation with the Georgia Department of Revenue or an accountant.

How to Choose a Book Publisher in Georgia

Search for book publishers in Georgia and three kinds of company appear together. Traditional publishers cover the costs but accept very few books and usually take the publishing rights. Hybrid publishers split costs and royalties. Self-publishing services such as Kinetic Digital Publishers are paid for the work, and the rights stay yours.

Two university presses in the state take submissions directly. The University of Georgia Press in Athens reviews nonfiction proposals by email, but it publishes fiction and poetry only through its competitions, such as the Flannery O'Connor Award. Mercer University Press in Macon accepts unsolicited book proposals sent to its director.

Before signing with anyone, check who owns the ISBN and store accounts, whether royalties are paid straight to you, and whether you get a written quote. With us, the first two are yours.

An Audience Is an Advantage If the Book Is Ready for It

Launching to people who already follow you is the best start an author can get, and the easiest to waste. An under-edited book with a weak cover spends that goodwill fast.

So the book gets ready first: structure, editing, proofreading, a cover built for its category and interiors typeset for print and ebook. Then we set the description, categories, keywords and pricing so the first weeks build momentum.

If your audience came from film or TV work, a podcast, a congregation or a company you built in Atlanta, tell us in the consultation. It shapes the cover, the description and who the launch speaks to.

Georgia's Literary Heritage

In Atlanta, the Margaret Mitchell House (https://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/atlanta-history-center-midtown/), now part of Atlanta History Center Midtown, is where Mitchell's first and only book, Gone With the Wind, was born.
