Kinetic Digital Publishers · Texas
Texas Book Publishing Services for Big Ideas and Finished Books
Kinetic Digital Publishers is a Dallas-based book publishing company, in business since 2014, offering book publishing services in Texas to self-publishing authors in Houston, Austin and San Antonio. Most books needing standard editing, formatting and a cover take 4–8 weeks, packages start at $299, and you keep 100% of your rights and royalties. Visit our head office in Dallas, Texas, or work with us by phone and video call.
Texas authors often start from something big: a company, a congregation, a family's history or a hard-won point of view. Around the state they also start from strong communities: genre novelists pitching agents at DFWCon, Austin writers in the Writers' League of Texas, and Houston Writers Guild members trading pages in critique circles.

Texas Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing
Texas is big enough to need a map for its literary life. These are the places we'd point a Texas writer to first.
- Texas Center for the Book. Established in 1987 at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission in Austin, it is the state's Library of Congress affiliate. It picks a Texas Great Read each year (2026: Hank the Cowdog ) and helped add new Texas Literary Landmarks.
- Writers' League of Texas , Austin. Founded in 1981 as the Austin Writers' League and now the state's largest literary arts nonprofit. It runs an annual Agents & Editors Conference and Texas Writes, which brings free half-day workshops to small community libraries.
- DFWCon , Dallas–Fort Worth. The DFW Writers Conference, presented by the DFW Writers' Workshop, is an annual two-day conference with nearly 100 classes, panels and agent pitch sessions.
- Houston Writers Guild. Conferences, workshops and member critique circles; check the Guild's site for current contests.
- Dallas Public Library. Free programs for adult writers, such as sessions on finding your writing voice; check the library's events calendar.
- Texas Book Festival , Austin. Free and open to all each fall in downtown Austin. Book submissions for each festival open in January.
- Independent bookstores. BookPeople in Austin (since 1970) takes stocking requests through a form, and Brazos Bookstore in Houston (opened in 1974) hosts mostly free signings.
Where we fit in: conferences teach the craft and the business; festivals and bookstores bring readers. We turn the manuscript into a finished book and hand you a schedule you can plan a launch around.
Selling Your Book in Texas: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores
The permit. The Texas Comptroller says you need a Texas sales and use tax permit if you sell tangible personal property in Texas, and books count. There is no fee for the permit, although some sellers are asked to post a security bond. Apply through the Comptroller's sales and use tax page before your first signing.
The rate. The state rate is 6.25%. Cities, counties, transit authorities and special districts can add up to 2%, for a maximum combined rate of 8.25%.
Online stores. Marketplace providers such as Amazon, eBay, Walmart Marketplace and Etsy must collect and remit Texas sales tax on every sale made through their marketplace. A remote seller who sells only through a provider that certifies it will collect doesn't need a Texas permit, but must keep sales records for four years. Remote sellers with less than $500,000 in Texas revenue over the past 12 months fall under a safe harbor.
What stays federal. ISBNs (from Bowker), copyright registration (the U.S. Copyright Office) and the optional Library of Congress Control Number work the same in Texas as everywhere else.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice.
How to Choose a Book Publisher in Texas
Publishers fall into three camps. Traditional and university presses acquire the rights and send you royalty statements. Hybrid publishers charge you for part of the work. Self-publishing services, Kinetic Digital Publishers included, charge for the work and leave the rights with you.
Texas presses worth a look: University of Texas Press in Austin prefers electronic proposals with a Submission Inquiry Form. TCU Press in Fort Worth takes queries by email for nonfiction, fiction and children's books. In Dallas, Deep Vellum's La Reunion imprint publishes Texas memoirs, regional histories and place-based fiction.
Watch for pay-to-play offers. The Texas Book Festival says it does not charge featured authors to take part in its official program. Make sure the ISBN and accounts are in your name and royalties come to you.
Big Ideas Need a Structure Readers Can Follow
Many Texas manuscripts begin with a strong message: a pastor's sermon series, a coach's program, a founder's lessons, a ranch family's history. The material is there. What it needs is a promise the book keeps, chapters that deliver it in order, and sentence-level editing so nothing gets in the reader's way.
For ministry books, we shape sermons and devotionals into one through-line for readers beyond your own congregation. For coaches and consultants, we build a chapter framework from your existing material and interviews, then edit or ghostwrite to it so the book reads as one argument. Children's book publishing projects get illustration time planned in from the start.
From Houston to Dallas to San Antonio and Austin, we do all of it without turning a personal manuscript into a generic one.
