New Hampshire Book Publishing Services for Authors Who Keep the Final Say

Kinetic Digital Publishers, a book publishing company since 2014, offers book publishing services in New Hampshire to writers in Manchester, Nashua and Concord: editing, design, self-publishing. Packages start at $299, books take 4–8 weeks, and 100% of your rights and royalties stay yours. We work with New Hampshire authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas.

New Hampshire authors tend to want the expertise without being managed. Many are already in the room at the 603 Writers' Conference in Concord, at a poetry reading in Derry or entering the state's literary awards, which accept self-published books. We supply the skilled production, and the author keeps the final decision on every page.

New Hampshire Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing

For a small state, New Hampshire packs in a lot of literary life, much of it rooted in the poets who worked here.

  • New Hampshire Center for the Book. Set up in 2003 at the New Hampshire State Library in Concord, it is the Library of Congress affiliate for the state. It promotes the state's literary heritage through programs such as Book Notes NH and the Ladybug Picture Book Award.
  • 603 Writers' Conference. Run by the New Hampshire Writers' Project, a member-funded nonprofit for writers of every genre, published or not. The state's largest writing conference is held in Concord and sells out every year.
  • New Hampshire Literary Awards. Every two years the Writers' Project honors books by New Hampshire natives or residents. Self-published print books are eligible, self-nomination is allowed, and each entry needs three copies; the 2025 round took nominations from February 15 to June 6.
  • Frost Farm Poetry, Derry. The Hyla Brook Reading Series brings free Thursday-evening readings with an open mic, May through September. Its poetry conference (August 14–16 in 2026, at the Audubon Massabesic Center in Auburn) adds workshops and individual critiques.
  • MacDowell, Peterborough. The artists' residency founded in 1907 awards about 300 fellowships a year across seven disciplines, including literature. There are no residency fees, and need-based stipends and travel grants are available.

Where we fit in: conferences and readings sharpen the writing; we handle what comes after, so the book you nominate for an award or sell after a reading is edited, designed and printed to a professional standard.

Selling Your Book in New Hampshire: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores

No sales tax. The state's Department of Business and Economic Affairs lists New Hampshire among the few states with no sales tax and no use tax, so a book you sell at a fair in Keene or a reading in Portsmouth carries no state sales tax.

Events. Because there is no sales tax, there is no state sales tax permit to apply for before an event. Ask the organizer or the town clerk whether a local vendor permit applies.

Online and out of state. With no sales tax in New Hampshire, there is no marketplace-facilitator collection on orders shipped to New Hampshire addresses. Sales to readers in other states can be a different matter, since those states set their own rules, so check before you ship copies across state lines yourself. The Department of Revenue Administration covers the taxes the state does levy.

Federal steps. Your ISBN is issued by Bowker and your copyright is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. If you want a Library of Congress Control Number, the voluntary Preassigned Control Number program provides one before publication.

This is general information, not tax or legal advice. For your own case, ask the Department of Revenue Administration or an accountant.

How to Choose a Book Publisher in New Hampshire

There are three ways in. A traditional publisher takes on the cost and the risk for a handful of books. A hybrid publisher shares costs with you and also shares your income. A self-publishing service does paid work for you, and the finished book stays yours.

One New Hampshire traditional house with an open door is Bauhan Publishing in the Monadnock region, whose roots go back to William L. Bauhan's purchase of a Rindge publishing company in 1959. It runs the May Sarton New Hampshire Poetry Prize and the Monadnock Essay Collection Prize; the poetry winner receives $1,000, publication and 50 copies. Self-published books are not eligible, and entries go through Submittable.

Whoever you talk to, check who will own the ISBN and store accounts, whether royalties come straight to you, and whether every service is priced in writing. We offer the third route.

Your Book, Your Decisions, Our Execution

Every editorial change is tracked and queried rather than silently applied. Every cover comes as options with the reasoning attached. Every proof is yours to reject.

We will tell you when we think a decision is a mistake, and then we will do what you decide. That is the whole arrangement. From Manchester to the Seacoast to the North Country, the book publishes across Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble and Kobo, under your name, and under your own imprint if you want one.

New Hampshire's Literary Heritage

Robert Frost owned the farm in Derry from 1900 to 1911, farming and teaching at nearby Pinkerton Academy while he developed the voice that later won him four Pulitzer Prizes. He then lived at The Frost Place in Franconia from 1915 to 1920; the house is now a museum and home for poets and poetry.

New Hampshire has no general sales tax, so there is no state sales tax license to get before a fair, festival or signing. Some towns or event organizers have their own vendor rules, so ask the organizer or the town clerk. If you sell into other states, their rules can apply. This is general information, not tax advice.

Join the New Hampshire Writers' Project and attend its 603 Writers' Conference in Concord each November, the largest in the state. Poets can add the free Hyla Brook readings in Derry, which end with an open mic, and the Frost Farm Poetry Conference each August. The State Library's Center for the Book also lists reading programs.

A few, mostly through contests. Bauhan Publishing in the Monadnock region publishes the winners of its May Sarton New Hampshire Poetry Prize and Monadnock Essay Collection Prize, and it takes entries through Submittable. Books that were already self-published are not eligible. For novels and most nonfiction, writers usually query a literary agent or self-publish.

No. Our head office is in Dallas, Texas. We work with New Hampshire authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas. Tracked edits, cover options and proofs come to you online for approval, so a writer in Dover or Keene keeps the same control as anyone else.

Yes. The New Hampshire Literary Awards, run every two years by the New Hampshire Writers' Project, accept self-published books in print by New Hampshire natives or residents. You can nominate yourself, and each entry needs three copies of the book. Ebooks and photocopies are not accepted, so a professionally printed paperback or hardcover matters.

Publishing packages start at $299. What you pay depends on the editing, cover, interior, audiobook and marketing you choose, and you approve the scope first.
