Book editing and proofreading: clear, correct, ready-to-publish prose, starting with the structural edit a memoir of reinvention usually needs.
Kinetic Digital Publishers · Nevada
Nevada Book Publishing Services for Second Acts and Big Swings
Kinetic Digital Publishers, a book publishing company since 2014, offers book publishing services in Nevada to writers in Las Vegas, Henderson and Reno: editing, covers, self-publishing. Packages start at $299, standard books take 4–8 weeks, and you keep 100% of your rights and royalties. We work with Nevada authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas.
Nevada attracts people mid-reinvention, and the books follow: a hospitality career, a business started over, a recovery, a mining town, a Las Vegas life that looks nothing like the one on television. Those writers share critique tables at the Henderson Writers Group, submit ebooks to the library district's Indie Author Project and sign books at the Las Vegas Book Festival.

Nevada Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing
Southern and northern Nevada both have working literary scenes, and several programs here are built for independent authors.
- Nevada Center for the Book. A program of Nevada Humanities and the state's Library of Congress affiliate. Its programs include the Las Vegas Book Festival and the Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, and it picks Nevada's titles for the National Book Festival.
- Las Vegas Book Festival. Founded in 2002 as the Vegas Valley Book Festival and run by the City of Las Vegas with Nevada Humanities, it is free to attend; check the festival site for this year's date. Exhibitors pay a booth fee, but the festival says it will never charge authors a fee to be featured.
- Henderson Writers Group. Meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and hosts the Las Vegas Writers Conference (April 8–10, 2027), where registration includes pitches to up to two agents or publishers.
- Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Writers Room. Free workshops, a West Charleston Library writing club with friendly critique, book fairs for local authors, and the Indie Author Project, which takes self-published ebooks each spring (April 1 to May 31 in 2026) with a $2,500 top prize.
- Nevada Arts Council. Its $5,000 Artist Fellowship is open to individuals, with the FY2027 deadline on May 1, 2026. A professional and workforce development grant is also open to Nevada residents 21 or older who are not students.
Where we fit in: a conference pitch or an Indie Author Project entry only works if the book is ready. We get it there with the edit, the cover, a clean ebook file and the store setup.
Selling Your Book in Nevada: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores
The rate. The Nevada Department of Taxation puts the base state sales tax at 6.85%, and counties add their own share. In Clark County the combined rate is 8.375%, so check the Department's rate sheets for the county where you sell.
Book fairs and festivals. At one-time events, the promoter registers with the Department at least two weeks ahead and hands each vendor a One-Time Sales Tax Return. You fill it in and return it to the promoter with the tax you collected before you leave. Sell at more than two events in 12 months, and Nevada expects you to hold your own Sales & Use Tax Permit.
Online stores. Since October 1, 2019, marketplace facilitators with more than $100,000 in Nevada sales or more than 200 separate transactions must collect sales tax on Nevada orders.
Federal, not state. Bowker issues ISBNs, the U.S. Copyright Office handles registration, and a Library of Congress Control Number is optional through the Preassigned Control Number program before your book comes out.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice. Check with the Nevada Department of Taxation or an accountant about your situation.
How to Choose a Book Publisher in Nevada
You can pitch a traditional publisher, which pays for production but chooses its list carefully; pay a hybrid publisher, which also keeps part of your earnings; or hire a self-publishing service and keep everything.
Nevada's traditional options are specialized. The University of Nevada Press in Reno, founded in 1961 by Robert Laxalt, takes proposals for books that deepen the understanding of Nevada, the Great Basin or the American West, and it sends fiction and poetry to outside readers for review. Huntington Press in Las Vegas publishes five to eight books a year, all on gambling, Las Vegas or southern Nevada, and starts with a query letter.
Before signing with anyone, confirm three things: the ISBN and store accounts are in your name, royalties come to you directly, and the full price is in writing. Kinetic Digital Publishers is one of those self-publishing services.
A Good Story Still Needs a Shape
Reinvention stories tend to arrive as a chronology: this happened, then this. That is a life, not yet a book. The book is the version that tells a stranger why any of it matters to them.
Our structural edit finds that version: where the book should start, what to cut and what the reader needs to understand before the turn comes. Then comes line editing, a proofread, a cover designed for the category and distribution across Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and the rest.

How We Publish Your Book, Step by Step
1 Free consultation. Tell us about your manuscript and goals. You get a plan, a timeline and a quote before anything starts.
2 Editing. The edit your book actually needs: developmental, line or copyedit, then a final proofread.
3 Design and formatting. A cover built for your genre and an interior laid out for print and ebook.
4 Publishing and launch. ISBN set up in your name or imprint, then listings on Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Google Play Books, with optional marketing.
Most books that need standard editing, formatting and a cover are ready in 4–8 weeks. Illustrated and children's books take longer. Publishing packages start at $299. Compare publishing packages and prices.
Nevada's Literary Heritage
The Nevada Writers Hall of Fame at the University of Nevada, Reno libraries began in 1988, and its first inductees were Robert Laxalt and Walter Van Tilburg Clark. Honorees are chosen for their body of work and a strong connection to Nevada, and inductees are honored at a yearly ceremony.

Talk to our teamIt depends on how often you sell. At a one-time event the promoter registers with the Department of Taxation and gives you a One-Time Sales Tax Return to complete and hand back with the tax you collected. If you sell at more than two events in a 12-month period, you need your own Sales and Use Tax Permit. This is general information, not tax advice.
In southern Nevada, the Henderson Writers Group meets three days a week and runs the Las Vegas Writers Conference each April, and the West Charleston Library hosts a writing club with critique. Statewide, Nevada Humanities runs the Literary Crawl and co-presents the free Las Vegas Book Festival every fall.
Yes. The University of Nevada Press accepts proposals on Nevada, the Great Basin and the American West, including poetry and fiction that fits one of its book series. Huntington Press in Las Vegas takes queries only for books on gambling, Las Vegas or southern Nevada. For most other books, an agent or self-publishing is the practical route.
No. Our head office is in Dallas, Texas. We work with Nevada authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas. Editing rounds, cover choices and proofs all run online, so an author in Elko or Mesquite works with us exactly as one in Las Vegas does.
Some. The Nevada Arts Council's $5,000 Artist Fellowship is open to individuals, and its FY2027 deadline was May 1, 2026. Nevada residents 21 or older who are not students can also look at its professional and workforce development grant. The library district's Indie Author Project offers a $2,500 top prize for self-published ebooks.
Publishing packages start at $299, and the total depends on the editing, design, formatting, audiobook and marketing your book needs. Living in Nevada does not change the price.
