Kinetic Digital Publishers · Louisiana
Louisiana Book Publishing Services for Writing With a Pulse
Kinetic Digital Publishers, a book publishing company since 2014, offers book publishing services in Louisiana to self-publishing authors from New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport. You keep 100% of your rights and royalties, packages begin at $299, and a typical book is ready in 4–8 weeks. We work by phone and video call, and you can meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas.
The manuscripts that suit us here have a strong sense of place: Cajun and Creole family histories, some in Louisiana French, books on New Orleans music and its players, memoirs from Army families who passed through Fort Polk, and fiction that leans into atmosphere. We keep that texture and fix the structure underneath.

Louisiana Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing
Louisiana's book world runs on festivals, parish libraries and small, steady writers' groups. Start here.
- Louisiana Center for the Book. Set up in the State Library of Louisiana in 1994, it is the state's official affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book. It has presented the Louisiana Writer Award since 2000 and chooses the two Louisiana titles for the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.
- Louisiana Book Festival , Baton Rouge. Free and run by the Center for the Book, it fills the State Library, the Capitol Park Museum and nearby downtown streets each fall. Check the festival site for this year's date.
- Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival. A French Quarter festival held every spring, with a writing contest program; the 2027 dates are March 17-21.
- Jambalaya Writers' Conference , Houma. Terrebonne Parish Library's yearly conference has run for more than 20 years. Its "First Page" session lets writers have an opening page critiqued anonymously by a panel; the 2026 edition was April 25.
- Writers Guild of Acadiana , Lafayette. Monthly meetings, critique groups and a members' booth for selling books at the Lafayette Farmer's Market on the second and last Saturdays of most months.
- Garden District Book Shop , New Orleans. An independent store on Prytania Street, founded in 1979, that hosts author events.
A note on grants: the Louisiana Division of the Arts funds projects through regional arts councils, and Arts New Orleans states that individual artists are no longer eligible for Louisiana Project Grants.
Where we fit in: these groups give you readers, feedback and deadlines. We take the finished draft through editing, design and the store listings.
Selling Your Book in Louisiana: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores
Two layers of tax. The Louisiana Department of Revenue lists the state sales tax at 5% from January 1, 2025. Parishes, cities and other local bodies levy their own sales taxes on top, so the total depends on where you sell.
Festivals and fairs. Every vendor at a special event, resident or not, must register with the Department for a state sales tax account. Use Form R-16019, tick the "Fairs, Festivals, and Other Special Events" box, and file it two to three weeks ahead. The Department also tells vendors to confirm with the promoter, before the event, that they are on its vendor list. State and local tax agents may collect on-site at events.
Online stores. Since July 1, 2020, a marketplace facilitator whose Louisiana retail sales exceeded $100,000 in the current or previous calendar year must collect state and local sales tax on the sales it handles.
Federal, not state. Your ISBN is issued through Bowker, the U.S. ISBN agency, copyright is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, and a Library of Congress Control Number is optional through its Preassigned Control Number program.

How to Choose a Book Publisher in Louisiana
A traditional press buys the right to publish and pays you royalties. A self-publishing service is paid for its work and leaves the rights with you. Hybrid publishers mix the two, so read their contracts line by line.
Louisiana's best-known traditional publisher is LSU Press in Baton Rouge, founded in 1935. It takes proposals, not full manuscripts, through its acquisitions editors, and it no longer accepts fiction proposals. LSU New Orleans Press takes proposals for fiction, nonfiction and academic work, prefers email and says reviews take 6 to 8 months.
Before paying any book publishers in Louisiana, ask three things: whose name goes on the ISBN and store accounts, whether royalties reach your bank directly, and whether the price is in writing. If a press turns you down, we set up the ISBN and accounts in your name, and royalties go to you.
Atmosphere Is Not a Substitute for Structure
A manuscript can be full of life on every page and still not hold together as a book. Vivid scenes need an order, and a family story told at the kitchen table needs a reason for chapter four to follow chapter three.
So our editors begin with structure: what the book is about, what each chapter does, and where a reader is likely to drift. Line editing comes next, and its job is to sharpen your voice, not flatten it into standard copy.
Dialect gets the same care. If your dialogue carries Louisiana French or Creole phrasing, tell us at the start and we will treat it as a style choice to keep consistent, not an error to correct.

Louisiana's Literary Heritage
The Ernest J. Gaines Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is an international center for scholarship on Gaines, the university's Writer-in-Residence Emeritus, and gives researchers access to his papers and manuscripts. The state also honors living writers: the 2025 Louisiana Writer Award went to former Louisiana Poet Laureate Julie Kane, presented at the Louisiana Book Festival.

Still have questions?
Tell us about your manuscript and a publishing consultant will walk you through the details.
Talk to our teamThe Louisiana Department of Revenue says every special-event vendor, resident or not, needs a state sales tax account and must collect tax on taxable sales. Register with Form R-16019, marking the special events box, and confirm you are on the promoter's vendor list before the day. Parish and city taxes apply on top. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.
Try the Writers Guild of Acadiana in Lafayette, which holds monthly meetings and critique groups, or the Jambalaya Writers' Conference at Terrebonne Parish Library in Houma each spring. The Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge each fall is the state's biggest gathering of writers and readers.
A few take proposals, though not full manuscripts at first. LSU Press in Baton Rouge reviews proposals through its acquisitions editors but no longer considers fiction. LSU New Orleans Press accepts proposals for fiction, nonfiction and academic work, and its review can take 6 to 8 months. Self-publishing is the faster route that keeps control with you.
No. Our head office is in Dallas, Texas. We work with Louisiana authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas. Call our Texas line, +1 (855) 209-8899, to start.
Not through the main state program for individuals. Louisiana Project Grants are run with regional arts councils, and Arts New Orleans says individual artists are no longer eligible. A library or literary nonprofit can still apply for a project you take part in, and festival writing contests offer another route.
Where you live in Louisiana does not change the price. Our publishing packages start at $299, and the final cost depends on the editing, design and marketing your manuscript needs; your free consultation ends with a plan and quote. Compare our publishing packages or read the [full cost breakdown](/blogs/cost-of-publishing-a-book-in-2026-complete-breakdown).
Yes. Your rights stay 100% yours. We work on a service basis, the store accounts are in your name, and royalties are paid directly to you.
