Connecticut Book Publishing Services for Authors With Something Worth Saying
Kinetic Digital Publishers, a book publishing company since 2014, provides book publishing services in Connecticut for self-publishing authors in Bridgeport and New Haven. A standard book takes 4-8 weeks, packages start at $299, and you keep 100% of your rights and royalties. We work with Connecticut authors by phone and video call, and you are welcome to meet us in person at our head office in Dallas, Texas.
Connecticut writing often comes out of a professional life in finance, insurance, law, medicine or a university, or out of a town history that runs back centuries. Readers of those books expect precision, so the editing, notes and layout have to be as careful as the thinking behind them.

Connecticut Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing
Connecticut is compact, which makes its literary network easy to reach from any town. Start with these.
- Connecticut Center for the Book. Run by Connecticut Humanities as the state affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book. Its Book Voyagers directory lists Connecticut authors. Under its inclusion criteria, you must have lived in the state for three consecutive years or been born here, have a single-author book that libraries and stores can stock, and have a title in the Library of Congress catalog. Self-published books qualify if a professional journal such as Publishers Weekly or Library Journal has reviewed them.
- Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association (CAPA). Founded in 1994 for authors, publishers and publishing professionals, published or not. It holds monthly meetings on writing, publishing and marketing and runs a Premier Book Contest.
- Connecticut Book Festival , West Hartford. CAPA's own festival is held at the West Hartford Conference Center; check CAPA's site for the next date. Authors must be CAPA members, share an 8-foot table, and need a Sales and Use Tax ID number to register.
- R. J. Julia Booksellers , Madison. At 768 Boston Post Road, it has hosted author events since 1990, more than three hundred a year, and makes a point of supporting local and independent authors.
- Connecticut Office of the Arts. Its Artist Fellowship is open to full-time residents 18 and older in any discipline, with awards of $1,000 to $5,000. It will not be offered in the July 2026 to June 2027 cycle, so watch for the next announcement.
Where we fit in: the directory, the festival table and the bookstore shelf all assume a professionally finished book. That part is our job.
Selling Your Book in Connecticut: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores
One statewide rate. Connecticut's general sales and use tax rate is 6.35%, and the Department of Revenue Services says there are no extra local sales taxes, so the rate is the same in every town.
Even one day of sales. DRS requires a Sales and Use Tax Permit if you sell at a flea market, craft show, trade show, fair or similar event in Connecticut, even if you sell for only one day, and you must display it at your table. The rule applies to individuals regardless of how many copies you sell. It matters in practice: CAPA's Connecticut Book Festival will not register an author without a Sales and Use Tax ID number.
Online stores. Before you assume a marketplace collects Connecticut tax for you, confirm it with DRS for the platform you use.
Federal pieces. Your ISBN comes from Bowker and copyright registration from the U.S. Copyright Office. A free Library of Congress Control Number through the PCN program is optional, but for Connecticut authors it also helps meet the Center for the Book directory's catalog requirement.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice.
How to Choose a Book Publisher in Connecticut
There are three routes. A traditional press acquires your rights and pays royalties if it accepts the book; a self-publishing service charges for the work and leaves every right with you; a hybrid sits between them and needs a careful contract review.
Connecticut's best-known book publishers are university presses. Yale University Press in New Haven welcomes proposals and manuscripts through the editor for your field. Wesleyan University Press in Middletown is currently taking proposals only on dance and music, and its general poetry submissions reopen in February 2027.
If you go the service route, get three answers in writing first: who holds the ISBN and store accounts, who is paid the royalties, and what the full quote includes.
Serious Books Need Serious Editing
A book built on professional expertise tends to fail in a predictable way: it is accurate and hard to read. Too many qualifications, too little story, and an assumption that the reader already cares.
Our editors keep the rigor while making the argument move. Structure comes first, so the reader always knows why a chapter is there, then line editing to lighten the prose. Citations follow one style from the first draft, and notes are typeset properly in both print and ebook, where they behave differently.
If your employer or compliance team needs to approve the text, plan that sign-off before design, so nothing is typeset twice. The result is a book a colleague will finish and a stranger will buy.

It can, if it meets the Connecticut Center for the Book's criteria. You need state residency of three years or Connecticut birth, a single-author book available to buy or borrow, and a title in the Library of Congress catalog. Self-published titles also need a review in a professional journal such as Library Journal.
