Kinetic Digital Publishers, a book publishing company since 2014, offers book publishing services in Oklahoma: editing, cover design and self-publishing support for authors in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Norman. Most manuscripts are ready in 4–8 weeks, packages start at $299, and 100% of your rights and royalties stay with you. We work from our head office in Dallas, Texas, by phone, video or in person.
Oklahoma's authors write across a wide range. The University of Oklahoma Press publishes the history and culture of the American West and Native American peoples. The Oklahoma Book Awards honor fiction, nonfiction, children's and young adult books, poetry and photography. Members of the state writers' federation write everything from Prohibition-era historical fiction to science fiction and romance.

Oklahoma Writing Groups, Libraries and Book Events Worth Knowing
Where Oklahoma writers find feedback, research material and readers:
- Oklahoma Center for the Book. Part of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the state's Library of Congress affiliate, it turns 40 in 2026. It runs the Oklahoma Book Awards and the online Oklahoma Authors Collection of author profiles.
- Oklahoma Writers' Federation, Inc. (OWFI). Its annual conference brings writers of every genre to Oklahoma City each May for workshops, networking and pitch sessions. It also runs a yearly contest and links affiliate groups such as the Norman Galaxy of Writers.
- Metropolitan Library System. The Oklahoma City area library system hosts author events, from a storytime with award-winning author Mariana Llanos to a Banned Books Week seminar with Michael Korenblit.
- Oklahoma Historical Society. Its Gateway to Oklahoma History offers free, keyword-searchable newspapers, photographs and maps, plus more than 390 issues of The Chronicles of Oklahoma from 1921 to 2019.
- Oklahoma Book Awards. The 37th awards were presented on May 16, 2026, at the Oklahoma History Center. The call for entries goes up each fall.
- Full Circle Bookstore. At 1900 NW Expressway in Oklahoma City's 50 Penn Place, it calls itself Oklahoma's largest and oldest independent bookstore and has hosted authors such as David Grann and Ree Drummond.
A note on grants: the Oklahoma Arts Council lists its grants for organizations and schools, not for individual writers. A library or literary nonprofit you partner with may be able to apply.
Where we fit in: award entries depend on the publication year. If you are aiming at the next Oklahoma Book Awards, we plan editing and production so the book is out in time.
Selling Your Book in Oklahoma: Sales Tax, Events and Online Stores
State and local rates. The Oklahoma Tax Commission levies sales tax at 4.5% of gross receipts, and county and city sales taxes apply on top where they exist. A sale at your table is taxed where it happens; a shipped copy is taxed where the buyer receives it.
Occasional or ongoing sales. The Commission's business help center says a sales tax permit is needed when you sell on an ongoing basis. For occasional sales, no permit is issued; you file a report when sales are made and mark it a "casual" sale. Permits are requested online through OkTAP.
Online stores. Marketplace facilitators with more than $10,000 in taxable Oklahoma sales over the previous 12 months must collect Oklahoma tax or meet the state's notice and reporting rules. Remote sellers register once they pass $100,000.
ISBN and copyright stay federal. Bowker supplies US ISBNs (isbn.org), the U.S. Copyright Office handles registration, and a Library of Congress Control Number from the Preassigned Control Number program is optional.
This is general information, not tax or legal advice.
How to Choose a Book Publisher in Oklahoma
Book publishers in Oklahoma come in three kinds. Traditional presses buy the rights and bear the cost, but publish only a small list. Hybrid companies charge the author and split the risk. Self-publishing services charge for editing, design and setup, and you remain the publisher.
The state's major traditional option is the University of Oklahoma Press in Norman, the first university press in the Southwest. It takes proposals through an online form seen by all of its acquisitions editors, uses peer review, and focuses on the American West, Native American peoples and books for Oklahoma readers. For poems and short fiction, Nimrod International Journal at The University of Tulsa has published new writing since 1956 and invites submissions.
Before signing with anyone, confirm in writing who registers the ISBN, whose bank account receives the royalties, and what every service costs. With us, the ISBN and store accounts carry your name and royalties are paid to you.
Get the Presentation Right and the Content Gets Read
Readers judge a book's production before its argument, most of all on a contested subject. The Oklahoma Historical Society notes that for many years the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre became "something of a taboo subject," and a state commission to investigate it was only formed in 1997.
Books that set a record straight have to be built to be taken seriously. The cover is designed against the live category, the interior is typeset properly, and sources and citations are handled to a standard a doubtful reader will accept.
For a tribal nation's history, decisions about sources, language and representation stay with you, and we can schedule a community review step. Archival documents, maps and photographs are planned early for resolution, placement and print cost. Expanded distribution then lets libraries and schools order copies.
